Ph.D. Vo Tri Thanh – director of BCSI emphasized the story of Vietnam - a country not highly regard for intellectual property protection. When it entering into strict and strict agreements such as the CPTPP, what strategy and solution does it need?

Accordingly, at the conference, delegates, experts and managers focused on two topics: Counterfeit goods, imitation goods in Vietnam; Intellectual property rights protection. The sharing helps businesses connect, present, share difficulties in production as well as solutions and proposals related to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in Vietnam.

As the consumer protection unit, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, vice president and general secretary of the Vietnam Standards and Consumer Protection Association, concerned about counterfeit goods as a parasite living off authentic ones and always change for resistance to survive persistently, making consumers confused with the unpredictable, difficult distinguish of the auth and the fake.

From enterprises’ opinions, recommendations and suggestions, State management agencies, the Government and Ministries will study to step by step improve the regulations, mechanisms and policies in preventing and fighting against counterfeit goods, intellectual property rights infringement. We will work together to reverse the problem of counterfeit goods and imitation goods, which are increasingly complicated to contribute to creating a healthy business environment, protecting enterprises' interests and consumers’ benefits.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thinh - Chairman of the Institute consultant of BCSI, a survey of 350 enterprises in 2016, mainly small and micro enterprises in Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, shows that there are 208 enterprises interested in brand protection, 18/208 has been established rights, 1/18 registered industrial designs, 17/18 registered trademarks. Many enterprises are afraid to cooperate with the anti-counterfeiting authorities, the counterfeiting later times is more sophisticated than the last times, and after announcing counterfeit, consumers are afraid to buy goods.” he said.

He believes that it is important to change the mindset of the business community and consumers themselves about counterfeiting, imitating and intellectual property protection. He worries how do you build a culture of "shame" when using counterfeit goods? At the same time, he gives advice that enterprises need to increase the brand exposure points; to make the consumers approach more by publicly announcing the point of sale, reviewing the distribution system to have more reliability from consumers. If enterprises silently bear, not say, not increase the brand exposure, the counterfeiting will develop strongly.
